A Tribute to Dr. Pratap chandra Chunder
Pratap Chandra Chunder, the noted educationist and former union minister passed away in Kolkata on Tuesday 1st of January 2008 after a prolonged illness. An intellectual par excellence, Pratap Chandra Chunder was a celebrated educationist of the 60's and 70's. Born in 1919, he was the son of the freedom fighter Nirmal Chandra Chunder. He studied history and law at the University of Calcutta. However, literature remained his first love and he penned many historical novels and drama including "Bubhuksha","Smrtira Alinde", "Glimpses of Indian Culture: Ancient and Modern", "Kautilya on Love and Morals".
Pratap Chandra chunder was a respectable name in the politics of West Bengal as well as India. He was a member of the West Bengal Legislative Assembly from 1962-68 and state's Finance and Judicial Minister in 1968. He was an attorney-at-law in the Calcutta High Court and an advocate of the Supreme Court of India. He was member of Senate and the faculty of law of the Calcutta University. He also was the Union Minister of education, culture and social welfare in Morarji Desai's Cabinet from 1977 to 1979.

Pratap Chandra Chunder was a former student of Hindu School . He passed out from the school in 1936. We the people associated with Hindu School feel proud to remember that this brilliant son of India was a former student of our School. It is our deepest grief to accept this great loss and we express our heartfelt condolence to his family and friends.
