A Tribute to Mr. Barendra Kumar Mukherjee
It is a sharp feeling of loss and pain to anyone and everyone associated with Hindu School to know that Baren Babu - the person who has commanded the respect of students starting from 1960's till today - is no more. One of the best teachers in the golden period of Hindu School's academic history, Baren Mukherjee, joined school in 15th January 1959. He used to teach mathematics, Additional Mechanics, Additional Mathematics and sometimes other science subjects as well. Mathematics teaching in Hindu School was symbolised in those days by three monumental names, Baren Mukherjee, Mrinal Mukherjee and Ajit Ghatak.
Baren Babu's life was one dedicated to education and teaching. His education was completed in bangladesh. During early days of his teaching life, he resided in a 'messbari' near Santosh Mitra Square. As a bachelor, his one and only focus of life was his teaching and students. He was a real Jewel maker. 1970 was the Golden Year in Academics for Hindu School. The School lifted 28 rank holders (Science,Technical,Arts,Commerce) out of 40 ranks in West Bengal Old Higher secondary exam. It was his peak time as a teacher, and most of these rank holders were very close to him. Following years till the time he was there in school will be producing countless Jewels who are today respectfully established in their own areas.

Baren babu was very serious (a proper word will be 'RashBhari') in dealing with students, but those who got the privilege of getting nearer to him will always remember his witty comments. This punctual, methodical and thoroughly disciplined teacher in his characteristic Dhuti, Panjabi and Black Frame Spec will always be a model teacher in the memories of all those students who was taught by him.

Baren Babu was associated with hindu School from 15th January,1959 to July,1984. He retired from Hare School in 1992. After retirement, he shifted to Hindu School Quarter near PNB, Salt Lake.

Last 15 years of his life was spent with family, with his Brother and other family members. Since 2006 middle, he was suffering in renal and kidney problem. For last 2/3 years, he was residing in a house near Air Port Gate No 1.

Hindu School Web team is fortunate enough to get his first and last Interview in July 2007 that was published in our online magazine.

This great teacher passed away on 23rd February,2009. For those, who knew him ever, his memory will be everlasting and the name will always command the same respect.
