“Then who am I??
I was born in Tatanagar, a small industrial town in Eastern
India, India. My upbringing was in Kolkata; the City of
Joy, the city of intellectuals, and much much more. My
native language is bengali. We, Bengalis, have a very
distinct and rich culture… My primary and secondary
schooling were from Hindu School, Kolkata and completed
my higher secondary (high school) education from the same
School in 1997.
After getting a Mechanical Engineering degree from Jadavpur
University, (batch of 2001), I joined the M. Tech. program
at IIT Kanpur, and graduated in 2004. After graduation
I worked at GE Global research center, Bangalore for two
years. I am now pursuing PhD at the Duke University.
My Hobbies: Reading books (mainly classics and poems);
Playing chess; Photography (Nowadays I hardly have enough
time to justify them as my hobbies)
This is indeed a very lame introduction. But what else
can I say about myself, except that I am the son of my
parents, brother of my sister and brother-in-law of her
husband?! And I have a cute and naughty nephew. Even that
would be equally lame introduction. “
His adviser, engineering professor Tod Laursen described
him as, “He made friends very easily and always
had a smile on his face. Our research team was particularly
close to Abhijit. He was very well read in both poetry
and literature, and enjoyed conversation with others about
what they were reading.”
Police investigating this slaying and filed a murder charge

Relatives and well-wishers of the family milled around
his home at Gamharia in Jharkhand's Sereikela Kharsawa
district.
There was condolence meetings held on Duke's campus, IIT
Kanpur campus and Jadavpur University campus.
We the people associated with Hindu School, Kolkata are
shocked about this killing of our innocent alumnus and
express our sincere condolence.
All discussion is veering round to one question now: why
would anyone want to shoot this soft-spoken, polite student?
